Patrick Vieira heads into Saturday’s Hudson River Derby kick off with confidence, both from last season’s successes and this season’s strong start.
Vieira said: “It’s going to be another tough game of course because of the rivalry between the two teams. But it will be important for us to get focused on how we want to play the game, it’s 3 points on the table that we want to take. It’s not going to be easy at all because they are in a really good period and playing really good football We expect a really difficult game.”

NYCFC did well to bounce back after a tough game in Portland, and the Boys in Blue will look to get their road mojo back on this short trip across the river.
“We had a difficult game in Portland, and we had a better game against Dallas, so we’re going into the game with a lot of confidence, but we know that if we want to have a positive result we will need to be at our best, going there with a really good structure, with a really good way that we want to play the game,” Vieira said.
Hudson River Derby debuts are on deck for a host of NYCFC’s new signings, but the intensity of the game should not be anything out of the ordinary for these, or any of the players that have been in this camp.
Vieira said: “We have enough experience I think those players have played in Europe and played some big games already, the intensity is going to be high, but they get used to it, but this is the way that we are working every day. What is important for us is to go there knowing how we want to play the game and give our best and see what will happen.”
