Coming back from a long road trip and a defeat in Atlanta, Patrick Vieira hopes to bounce back after making too many mistakes against a good team.
Though frustrated with NYCFC’s play during the first half of Sunday’s match, Patrick was still pleased with the character and attitude that was shown in the second half.
Patrick gave props to Atlanta United, who he believed were the better team.
Patrick told NYCFC: “Of course we want to do better than what we did but in the end we have to give credit to the teams that we played against. They were well prepared and at the end of the day they were better.
“I think that when you look at the last game we played against Atlanta, the individual mistakes that we made we got punished right away because of the quality of the players they have up front.
“I think when you look at the game again, Atlanta was the better team and that’s why they definitely deserved to win the game.”
Vieira is expecting a big response in these next two home games - starting tonight against New England Revolution – prompting his team to be more consistent and focused.
NYCFC’s Head Coach said: “We need to bounce back straight away. We have two home games starting on Wednesday and the home games are really important and we don’t have an option but to win the games.”
“We need to be more concentrated from the start to the end and that will help us win games.
“I think when you look at the games that we won lately, it’s because we played really well from the start to the end. And of course when we are like that, we are going to give ourselves more chances of winning football matches.
“I think we need to be more consistent and more concentrated. I think during the 90 minutes we had too many ups and downs and the mistakes that we made cost us a lot.
“That’s why we have to be consistent in our performance.”
