The MLS MVP took home 45% of the fan vote following an outstanding month for the Boys in Blue.
Seeing off competition from teammates Alexander Callens, Alex Ring and Sean Johnson, Villa built upon an incredible June which saw him named MLS Player of the Month.
El Guaje netted three goals in his four games in July and produced arguably the outstanding performance of the month in the dramatic ten-man win over Chicago Fire.

Of course, it was the 35-year old who gave his side the lead in that 2-1 win but the amount of sweat he poured into the remaining minutes to help defend the lead ensured it was the archetype of the complete captain’s performance.
Villa also scored goals against Vancouver and Toronto in a month which saw NYCFC face off against the Eastern Conference top two.
David returned to NYC on Wednesday night following another impressive 45 minutes for the MLS All Star team against Real Madrid and will be hoping to fire his side to another famous derby win on Sunday night.
NYCFC take on Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium at 6pm.
