David Villa
David Villa is coming off of another productive month for NYCFC in which he scored three goals and added an assist in the club’s four matches. In addition to his attacking production, Villa was instrumental to City’s success in their 10-man win over the Chicago Fire, contributing tireless defensive effort and pressure. He drew three fouls in that match, as well, helping to relieve pressure on NYCFC’s defense.
Alexander Callens
Callens had yet another consistent month, extending his streak of playing every single minute of the season for NYCFC through four more matches. Callens was tasked with even more to deal with against a powerful Chicago Fire attack while NYCFC were without one of their defensive midfielders thanks to a red card, and his tireless efforts kept NYCFC from being overwhelmed.
Alexander Ring
The second Alexander in contention for the Etihad POTM award for July, his efforts were second to none in the midfield. Ring played every minute of NYCFC’s matches in July, connecting passes and breaking up opponents’ attacks. He still wasn’t able to notch his first goal this month, but his relentless motor, muscle, and defensive intelligence makes him invaluable for NYCFC.
Sean Johnson
The ‘keeper returned from international duty and stepped right back into the lineup for City against Toronto, making three saves in a midweek matchup against the league’s top side. He followed up that remarkable performance by absolutely standing on his head against Chicago, making six saves and anchoring a shorthanded NYCFC defense to a 2-1 victory just three days later.
