Here are your nominees for the Etihad Player of the Month for July 2022.

Sean Johnson

The Club Captain is going from strength to strength in 2022, and recently earned a deserved call up to the MLS All Star roster.

Johnson was central to NYCFC’s undefeated record in July. Playing every available minute as the team won four and tied two games, he produced countless valuable saves across the month. Particular highlights included the Club’s Hudson River Derby success, as well as hard-fought victories against FC Dallas and Inter Miami CF.

Showing no signs of slowing down, Johnson will be keen to maintain this momentum as we move further into the second half of the year.

Maxi Moralez

The veteran playmaker is aging like a fine wine.

Involved in all but one of NYCFC’s matches in July, Moralez showed his poise and intelligence on the ball to help dictate play in the final third. Rarely losing the ball, and always posing a creative threat, Moralez even added his name to the scoresheet when NYCFC took on Inter Miami CF.

Nipping in to fire low from a narrow angle, Moralez’s first goal of the season set the team on their way to a 2-0 win and another big three points. A seemingly ageless player that oozes class, Moralez’s performances continue to be a lesson in the art of controlling the tempo of a match.

Thiago Martins

The Brazilian defender was a new signing this off-season and arrived with a strong reputation in the J.League.

After taking some time to acclimatize to his new surroundings it’s clear to see why he was so highly-regarded with Yokohama F. Marinos. Tall, strong, quick, and keen to play out from the back, Thiago has formed an impressive partnership with Alex Callens.

His performances in July helped NYCFC continue their unbeaten run that now stands at seven games. On a personal level, Thiago was involved in four wins and one tie, with the team keeping four clean sheets with him in the starting XI.
