Two of the Major League Soccer’s early pacesetters meet at Yankee Stadium on Sunday and Ethan White is looking forward to the challenge.
Ethan, who has started all but two games in 2017 to date, has been impressed by Orlando City SC’s recent form but is optimistic that NYCFC can continue gaining momentum going into a busy period of games.
There are nine games taking place over the course of the next seven weeks and White feels as though a victory on Sunday could set the tone for a decisive time in the season.
“Obviously they’re a team who are in good form right now and we got to hopefully get after them and surprise them,” Ethan told NYCFC.com.
“We’re going to play our game still and hopefully it will be a good one.
“I think it’s going to be a good game – they’re on a good run and we’re gaining momentum so it will be interesting for these two teams to go head to head.
“It felt really good to get that first away win of 2017 – we really needed it and hopefully it can give us some momentum going into the next month stretch of games. We have a few games coming up which are on the road, so good to get that first win.
“We’re going to bring our game on Sunday and hopefully we’ll get the W.”
NYCFC come into this one on the back of an important 2-0 victory over Philadelphia Union.
Ethan admits that going into the 90th minute against Jim Curtin’s side with a one-goal lead wasn’t ideal given how many chances his team had created.
However, he knew that with David Villa still on the field, anything could happen.
White added: “We knew they were going to throw numbers forward late on but we have someone like David who can bang in 50 yard goals, so it felt good to get some relief with that crazy goal.
“I really didn’t even realize it went in for the first three seconds until I saw the guys sprinting to David and their players running back. After that, I just couldn’t believe it.”
