NYCFC U-16s were the youngest team by far at the 2017 Generation adidas Spring Regional Event but finished in a hugely creditable third place.
Signing off on a great weekend at the UCF Soccer Complex in Orlando, Matt Pilkington's team beat Red Bulls 5-4 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in the final game on Monday morning.
NYCFC had lost the opening game of the weekend 3-1 to Atlanta but recovered to defeat DC United 4-1 before the win over Red Bulls on the final day.
In October, the team had amassed five points from their three games in the Fall series which leaves Matt Pilkington’s side with an overall tally of 10 points, meaning they narrowly miss out on qualification for the Championship Cup in Frisco by a single point.
NYCFC fielded a U-16 team in the U-17 competition which is regarded as one of the premier competitive youth soccer tournaments in North America.
